Monroe High School’s Girls Varsity Basketball team coach has recently retired for personal reasons, so Coach Ernie Sellers is taking over the role.

Sellers is very dedicated to the sport and the team.

“I have a strong passion for trying to figure out how to get my team to win,” Sellers said.

On top of that, junior Sami Sieler sees a bright future for this season.

“I think with the new coach, it’s going to be a lot better than the previous year,”  Sieler said.

When asked if she likes the new coach, Sieler replies with positive thinking.

“I have met him and he’s a really good guy, and he definitely has good intentions with our program,” Sieler said.

It appears that junior Amari Aaron has high expectations for this season.

“I feel like we’re going to do a lot of improving, whether that be we learn from our losses or take away a lot of wins,” Aaron said.

Sellers seems enthusiastic about this change as well because he said he enjoys working with the team.

“I love working with the girls to help make them better. We want to restore the pride in Monroe girls basketball right away,” he said.

Sellers has had a lot of experience with coaching, so this could be a positive thing for the team.

“I have been coaching basketball at some level for 41 years,” said Sellers. “I was Monroe’s boys coach for nine years… in the 90’s.”
