Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. From minor car accidents to severe trauma, blood transfusions happen constantly. There is no substitute and still only one source of blood for transfusions- volunteer blood donors. By donating blood you are giving life to someone in need.
MHS has recently held its annual blood drive allowing anyone 16 years old or older the opportunity to give blood through the Monroe Red Cross. With over 100 volunteers from our school, the blood drive was a very successful accomplishment.
Anyone over the age of 16 did not require parents’ consent. The Monroe Red Cross repeatedly assures it will provide the safest possible donation experience for our very own volunteer donors. It is suggested to consume a healthy breakfast or lunch depending on when your appointment is scheduled.
Sara Sweat-Ziegler said MHS surpassed its goal, granting students the chance to give blood for an upright cause which may not always be available. “I think the blood drive was very successful and it creates the opportunity for students to donate, that they might not otherwise have,” said Sweat-Ziegler.
Many people don’t realize the importance in donating. However, we have very dedicated and consistent donors at MHS.
“It makes me feel good at the fact when I donate blood, I’m helping someone in need,” said senior Glenn Morris. “I’ve donated blood for as long as I’ve been able to.”
