On Oct. 20, at 7 p.m., Monroe High’s three choir groups performed their fall concert in the school auditorium. The groups performing were Generations, Expressions and Concert Choir.
The performance showcased the songs that the groups, totaling over 100 members, have been working on since the start of the school year. The show was followed by an ice cream social in the commons.
The group was led by advisor Catherine Windelborn and accompanied on piano by Jane Krueger.
Generations, made up of mainly juniors and seniors, worked on such songs as “Walk Together Children” and “Three Hungarian Folk Songs”. Expressions sang “Tell My Ma” and “Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier” and others. They are an all-girl group and consist mainly of sophomores and juniors. Concert choir, a mixed group of genders and grades, performed songs including “Old King Cole.” The night concluded with all three groups singing “Homeland” together.
This year, the Concert Choir had the responsibility of hosting the event. They introduced the songs sung by the varying groups.
Sophomore Makayla Bowie said, “We have a lot of fun and everybody did good. I wasn’t nervous because I did it last year.” She also mentioned enjoying the pre-concert warm up in the choir room.
There was some concern over whether or not the dresses ordered by the ladies in the choir would arrive before the concert. Each choir wears a different color dress and the boys wear tuxedos. The dresses arrived on time and were used instead of having to resort to the alternative of wearing robes.
The choir groups generally puts on three joint concerts a year, one in the fall, a pop concert and one in spring.
