Monroe High held its homecoming court assembly with the theme of Nightmare on Herr Rd. to introduce the candidates for homecoming king and queen Monday, Oct. 17.
Robert Vergiels announced all homecoming candidates by introducing them, their hobbies, and their favorite Halloween memory.
The female candidates are seniors Kallie Cassidy, Marina Aguilera, Amanda Huber, Asia Jackson, Judy Vasquez, Jordan Burman, Ryley Bourbina, and Samantha Waltz.
The Male candidates are seniors Jake Eby, Sean Linton, Michael McBride, Marvin Antwih, Mitchell Tyson, Tomas (Tony) Simonton, Drake Minton, and William Schwab.
Each candidate was asked to perform a skit as they were introduced to show off their personality to the crowd in hopes to win votes.
Voting took place on Wednesday and the winners will be announced at the half time of the homecoming game on Friday.
Aguilera pulled the audience’s attention with her wonder woman performance, roping her assistant friends, junior Alec Stewart and senior Nathan Harris as they escorted her around the gym. Huber and her crew danced their way around the gym. Cassidy showed her wild side doing the creep.
“The wonder woman one was my favorite,” said Brianna Morgan a member of the audience, “It was AMAZING!!”
Simonton zapped the crowd’s attention with his ghostbuster skit. McBride pumped everybody up with escape from his straight jacket. A highlight was when Antwih was followed around the gym with his own marching band. Schwab surprised the people with his coffin routine.
“I think everything turned out good,” said Asia Jackson, a candidate on court, “Most skits were nice.”
This year was teacher Annie Knabusch’s first year as coordinator. Sara Sweat-Ziegler, who has run it in the past, helped her during the assembly.
“This year’s Homecoming skits, I say, were good but last year the seniors were more into the skits and I think they turned out better,” said senior Kierstyn Coleman.
