Monroe High School’s new principal Matthew Cortez has made some changes and started new programs for the school, including a program called Pure MHS.
Pure MHS is a compilation of videos and Powerpoints that highlight the best things that Monroe has to offer in order to draw students to the district.
“Since I’ve become principal I’ve learned the best kept secret is that Monroe High is the best thing in Monroe,” said Cortez.
According to Cortez, the school board thinks we need to advertise what’s going on in the school and let people know why they should let their children attend MHS.
Thanks to Cortez and Montyee Barbee, one of our school’s assistant principals, the first video was started, which can be found on Monroe High School’s website.
Administrators want the children to feel free to come forward with their ideas and scripts, but at the moment they want the videos to be in a controlled environment so they can oversee it.
“We don’t just want to hear or see things about the jocks or athletes; we also want to hear about the people who make a difference and people who can rock in the academic area,” said Jennifer Davis, a teacher here at MHS.
Cortez immediate actions to move forward initiatives like this show that he is a very ambitious man, and that’s what Monroe High needs; he’s also talking to the radio stations and local cable stations to see if they will air Pure MHS to get the word out about our school.
With all this advertisement, he hopes that Pure MHS will make Monroe High come alive.
“There will be more pride the more we get things out there,” said Cortez.
