This is the first year since the pandemic that Monroe High was able to hold a Winterfest game and dance, and with that, naturally comes the winners of the Winterfest court nominees. At Monroe, a Winterfest Princess and Prince are crowned for the freshman through junior class, and a Winterfest Queen and King are crowned for the seniors.

The freshman winners were Jada Hall and Knoah Sweat. The sophomore winners were Katelyn Boss and Michal Burkett. For the juniors, the winners were Jaziray James and Elijah Yeaman. The senior’s Winterfest Queen and King were Sarah Taft and Landen Riggs.

Taft said that winning was a big surprise.

“It was really exciting because I didn’t think I was going to win,” shared Taft.

Riggs, who is also a varsity basketball player, said that winning Winterfest King was one of the best things that could happen.

“It made the whole night awesome,” Riggs said. “Everything about it, I loved.”

Yeaman said that when he heard that he had won Junior Winterfest Prince, he was surprised and glad.

“It was really, really scary,” he stated. “When I heard my name I was like, ‘oh my God,’ and I was all happy.”

James said she was ecstatic that she won.

“It feels good,” said James. “I was really nervous!”

Boss said she was very grateful and appreciative that she won.

“I feel so excited. I was kind of nervous about it at first, but now I’m really excited,” she said. “I really appreciate everyone who nominated and voted for me.”

Burkett said he was appreciative of all the people that supported him.

“I was nervous, but I’m thankful for everyone that voted for us and I’m glad I won,” she said.

Hall said that she was excited that she won.

“I’m excited, I’m happy,” she said. “I kept saying I was going to win. Confidence is key.”

When asked about his plans after Winterfest, Sweat said he plans on taking a long nap.

“I’m probably going to sleep more,” he shared.
