Many alumni have left the school after graduating and started doing many different and amazing things. Casey Cheap is a Monroe High School alumni who attended the school from 2002 to 2006 and has recently left Washington D.C. where he held many positions.

After graduating from MHS, Cheap attended Monroe County Community College then transferred to the University of Toledo where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications.

Cheap then went on to start working in Washington D.C. While in D.C., Cheap served many roles such as: serving in the Executive Office of the President, White House Office, The White House, Appointed to the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST), U.S. Department of Transportation, and many more roles.

Before he started working in government offices, Cheap was involved in two nonprofit organizations on Capitol Hill in the political think tank and grassroots campaign world. He currently has left D.C. and now lives down south.

While attending MHS, Cheap was involved in clubs that helped him get to where he is today.

“I must give a big shout out to Gail Price, who did a superb job running the school newspaper in those days, and really helped me get on track to pursue journalism in college,” Cheap said. “The Lotus Leaf led to joining The Agora staff at MCCC, and eventually, opportunities to be published elsewhere.”

Cheap said that even lacking many natural advantages, his hard work helped him get to where he is today.

“If you don’t have a lot of natural advantages, you must work harder and put in the extra time to get the same distance as many others,” Cheap said. “We live in an age where we’ve never had more information available and accessible to more people than ever before, and the best part about it is nearly all that information is free.”
