Everyone’s had that dream in life. Some of us aspire to be singers, scientists, or lawyers. In ABC Family’s hit show Make it or Break it, the characters are working on their dream: To be Olympic gymnasts in the 2012 Olympic games.
Recently, season two picked up where it left off in August. After the August episode, we were left to wonder what in the world was going on. All four of the main girls—Lauren, Emily, Kaylie, and Payson—had made the cut to compete at worlds, but there were some complications.
Due to her anorexia, Kaylie fainted during her beam routine and was taken to what we can assume is a hospital. Lauren, with all that karma coming back at her, is dealing with the death of her mother, who she only just realized really did love her. After skipping her court date for taking the medication for her brother, Emily is taken out by the cops after her try-outs and is later seen in one of those gross orange jail uniforms that makes us really wonder how bad of trouble she’s in.
And then there’s the obvious problem: Sasha, the girls’ beloved coach, has left town, leaving the girls without their coach as they strive towards their life-long goal.
The season picks up with the new coach coming in, an old Olympic gymnast, and also introduces new characters and new shocks. I usually don’t like shows like this one, but I found every episode captivating. Sometimes I felt like they were just throwing around the same stupid conflict over and over again, but then there was always that twist that leaves you going, “What the heck?”.
It’s things like that that make show so strong, and Make It or Break It is one of the strongest shows I’ve seen in a while.
