Thousands of citizens from California evacuated their homes because of the quickly spreading wildfires. What started as a rare lightning storm during this month turned into a fire that has swarmed thousands of acres. The high winds and dry California conditions aided its descent towards San Francisco.

About 27,000 people evacuated their homes to travel further from the fires. Meanwhile there are over 1,000 firefighters that are risking their lives to try and stop the fires from spreading. According to BBC “Firefighters warned the fire was moving so fast they were unable to control it.” Firefighters reported that 150 buildings were destroyed in the fires so far.

One of the fires was accidentally started by a gender reveal party when a firework was set off. This is one of the smaller fires compared to the biggest although it has advanced over 7,000 acres of land. Presumably the largest fire, Creek Fire, has scorched an unnerving 78,000 acres of land. “More than 200 hikers had to be airlifted out of the popular Mammoth Pool Reservoir after becoming trapped by flames on Saturday.” Due to the wildfires California has suffered record heat waves. “Los Angeles County reported its highest ever temperature of 49.4C (121F)”
