NBA season finishes with Lakers championship

Zak Everett, Reporter

After months of uncertainty and rumors of if there was even going to be an NBA playoffs, the NBA delivered the longest season in NBA history. The Los Angeles Lakers have won the NBA Championship beating the Miami Heat in game six by a score of 106-93. This is the Lakers 17th championship and is now tied with the Boston Celtics for the most championships in the NBA.

Lebron James was awarded finals MVP, it is his fourth finals MVP of his career and the fourth NBA championship of his career. Lebron James averaged 29.8 points-11.8 rebounds-and 8.5 assists. Anthony Davis also had a great finals series averaging 25 points-10.7 rebounds-and 3.2 assists. In a losing effort Jimmy Butler had a stellar finals performance averaging 26.2 points-8.3 rebounds-and 9.8 assists. Many people thought Anthony Davis deserved the finals MVP over Lebron James, however, they put up very similar stats in the finals, and when Lebron is in the finals, and his team wins, he’s going to get the MVP award.

This was not the most exciting series by far, it was a pretty predictable series, and other than the Heat winning game five, there was not a lot of drama or intrigue. Only two of the games were decided by single digit, and only one game was decided by one possession with a last second game-tying shot missed by the Lakers in game five. In my opinion, I thought it was an entertaining series, but it definitely wasn’t the best. Many people must have had that thought because this NBA Finals had one of the worst television ratings of all time. Game six, when the Lakers won the NBA Championship only had 5.6 million viewers, that same night over 11.4 million viewers watched a regular season “Sunday Night Football” game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks.

There are other reasons ratings may have been down, some political, and some other outlier issues, but one thing is for sure, the Los Angeles Lakers are your 2020 NBA Champions.
