Every year, MHS holds the annual homecoming and winterfest dances. Over the years, these dances have gone downhill, becoming less fun each year. It’s time for a change. We need to get rid of the idea of a basic formal winterfest and adopt a new dance in its place. Monroe needs to hold a dance that’s less stressful, less time consuming, and more cost efficient.

Winterfest is the exact same dance as homecoming, just four months later. Monroe needs to take this formal dance and shift it into a new and exciting dance. For example Bedford and SMCC both hold dances that are not formals, such as a “techno dance.” These dances are much more convenient for students and arguably more fun.

Holding an informal dance is less stressful for students. It takes away the stress of needing to find a fancy dress or outfit, schedule hair appointments, and the overall stress of feeling like everything needs to be perfect. These dances allow students to wear clothes they already own to fit whatever the theme may be, and do their own makeup and hair. This will make it more cost efficient for students, taking away the heavy costs of buying outfits, and removing the hours of preparation that occurs before a formal winterfest.

Monroe needs to a new and improved winter dance that makes students want to attend again. Students should be excited to go to a school dance, and by taking away the stress associated with a formal dance and making a new themed dance, students might start to look forward to Monroe’s dances.
