OPINION: New Harry Styles album was crafted perfectly

Harry Styles broke his two-year hiatus with twelve new songs on his 70’s inspired album “Fine Line.” The album begins with his upbeat anthem “Golden,” setting a bright tone. The next three songs “Watermelon Sugar, Adore You” and “Lights Up” were all released separately before the rest of the album, but still hold an important meaning to the rest of the album.

He carries on with the dismal break-up song “Cherry,” that notes his jealous tendencies once being replaced. Styles references his previous girlfriend, model Camille Rowe, in “Falling” when he sings, “I’m well aware I write too many songs about you” and in “Cherry” when he sings, “I just miss your accent and your friends.” The couple split in early 2018 and their break-up is continuously brought up throughout the album.

“She” is this album’s version of “Woman,” the ninth track on Styles’s self-titled album that was released back in 2017, with its passionate and romantic perception. Though there are only two verses excluding the chorus, the lyrics in “She” are met with a three-minute guitar solo, contributing to the intriguing vibe of the song.

Songs like “Sunflower, Vol. 6” and “Canyon Moon” sound like a mixture of Styles and The Beatles because of the joyful acoustic undertone and the symbolic and situational lyrics.

The album ends with six minute track and the title of his album, “Fine Line.” This track consists of two heart wrenching verses that speak of the good and the bad in love and life in general. The second half of the song uses repetition of the phrase “We’ll be a fine line” sixteen times with varying levels of instrumental intensity, making the lyrics hit different each time.

Overall, Styles crafted a perfect album to listen to post break-up or when making memories. Though the sadder tracks outnumber the happier ones, all are unique and catchy.
