Michigan falls short on comeback attempt 28-21

The first half of the game was dominated by Penn State scoring 14 points in the first 16 minutes of the game. Michigan was rattled, punting or turning the ball over on the first four possessions of the game. After a Shea Patterson interception, Penn State scored a 25 yard touchdown pass from Sean Clifford to KJ Hamler. Penn State was up 21-0 with 7:22 left in the second quarter. The game seemed as if it was getting out of hand however, Michigan scored a much needed touchdown from Zach Charbonnet to make the score 21-7 at half.

The second half started with five straight punts, until Michigan scored  from a touchdown run by Zach Charbonnet. Penn State shot back with a 53 yard touchdown pass from KJ Hamler, to make the score 28-14. Michigan got the ball back down 14 with 13:14 left in the game. They were in strong need of a touchdown, and Shea Patterson had his best drive of the game. Patterson led them to the one yard line, he then ran the ball in the endzone to make the score 28-21. Michigan’s defense came through with a much needed stop. With over six minutes remaining Michigan had the ball and were still down by seven. Michigan drove the ball down to the three yard line on 4th and goal. Shea Patterson lined up in the shotgun, he looked for his receivers and escaped the pocket, then he threw the ball to Ronnie Bell in the endzone and he dropped it! Penn State runs out the clock and they win the game.

My final thoughts: Michigan showed a lot of heart after falling to a 21-0 deficit but fought back to get the game within a score. Shea Patterson played his best game as a Michigan quarterback and he finally looked like the big deal he was when he transferred to Michigan. Ronnie Bell is a great player and he can’t let that dropped ball go to his head.

Final Statline: Shea Patterson went 24-41 with 276 yards, one interception and one rushing touchdown. Sean Clifford went 14-25 182 yards and 3 touchdowns.
