The “Unplanned” movie was released earlier this year and has sparked controversy among people all across the country. The movie is based on a true story following a woman who was one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors. She originally was a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood but decided to switch sides and “join her former enemies at “40 Days for Life” (unplannedfilm.com).

In October 2009, Abby Johnson quit her job after taking part first hand in performing an abortion, switching the sides of her beliefs from being pro-choice to pro-life. Now, she is known for being one of the largest activist for the pro-life movement. Johnson helped direct this movie along with the help of Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelma, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie “God’s Not Dead”.

Both films focus heavily on spiritual influence in everyday decision making, with the hopes to persuade audiences to choose life.

The movie was met with expected controversy from pro-choice supporters. Comedian Samantha Bee, who is often in the spotlight for her comedy bits on controversial topics called “Unplanned” an “anti-choice propaganda movie.” (TBS’s Full Frontal).

With the new laws surrounding abortion in several different states in America, Bee along with many other people, believe that the movie was released at an inappropriate time. They also claim that the movie slanders Planned Parenthood to be the “root of all evil.” The Daily Beast says that it is the “cinematic equivalent of an anti-abortion pamphlet.”(Thedailybeast.com).

General discussions in the pro-life community said the movie is doing everything it can to possibly show why people should support the message behind it. However Google tends to categorize it as propaganda while other sources have it listed as a “Christian drama.”
