For the past few years, diet pop has been available in Monroe High School’s cafeteria. However, the main question that pops up in student’s minds is, “Isn’t diet pop just as bad as—and possibly worse than–regular pop?”
I think it is. It definitely tastes worse than regular pop. However, I did not know of any diehard statistics to prove my case. Thanks to webmd.com, however, I am officially educated in the ways of diet pop.
Sharon P. Fowler, MPH, and colleagues at the University of Texas Health Science Center have been looking into what drinks/food products cause people to lose and gain weight. In a recent study, however, they found that diet pop wasn’t helping people lose weight, but causing them to gain it instead.
Fowler actually found that there is a 41% increase in the risk of being overweight for every can of diet pop that a person intakes daily. Diet soda doesn’t necessarily cause obesity, but it is highly linked to it.
Drinking diet pop does not mean you will lose weight. Being on a diet and drinking diet pop are two different things! Diet pop doesn’t even help you lose weight a good chunk of the time!
