The River Raisin Centre for the Arts (RRCA) is one of the main places in Monroe to go to see live shows, whether they are plays or musicals. They show something new fairly often, with the most recent musical put on being Beehive: The 60’s Musical, directed and co-produced by Alison Drougel. This musical was shown March 11 and 12 at 7:30, and again March 13 at 3:00.
The musical was presented by Off Beat Productions but it was far from offbeat! The show was a display of the various music that came from the whole 60s decade. Through these songs, they told a story greater than just about music. This story told portrayed the struggle of women over those years and how they fought for equality. They covered many songs, such as ones by The Monkees and Arethra Franklin, but those are just a couple of the numerous songs.
Although the turnout was small, the show still went on. While only six actresses performed during the entire play, it still turned out great; the time and effort they put into practice really shined through. You could tell these ladies really had to work hard. With a wardrobe change after every set, it was obvious it was very busy back stage. But even with all the hustle and bustle, the show went off without as much as a single slip up.
I feel like they all need special recognition for their hard work, so congratulations to Roxanne Cangealose, Alison Drougel, Daveaux Riggs, Holly Sisung, Michelle Sontag, and Mary Timko. So for all you people out there that weren’t able to attend, you sure missed a heck of a show.
