New movie ‘Everything, Everything’ comes out

Ah, “Everything, Everything,” the new summer sweetheart film, may be a good datenight movie but is not worth rushing out to see. It is about a girl who has SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency), a disease that makes someone’s immune system so weak that the slightest contact with germs will get them sick, and a boy who falls in love with her through her bedroom window. The girl’s name is Maddy Whittier, played by Amanda Stenberg, who previously played in “The Hunger Games” as Rue. The boy, Olly Bright, played by Nick Robinson, fell in love with Maddy and made it his mission to meet her.

After the two exchange numbers and talk for a while, Maddy’s nurse, Carla (played by Ana de la Reguera), allows Olly into the house so the two can talk for a bit.

As expected, the overprotective mother finds out and tries to cut all ties between the two and ends up firing Carla. Like almost any other teenager, Maddy and Olly continue talking and spoiler alert, end up running off to Hawaii until Maddy gets sick and ends up returning home after going to the hospital.

After that, the movie tries to throw in some twists and turns, but for the most part stays pretty predictable.

“Everything, Everything” had loads of potential to be an emotional movie, but it fell short with all of its clichés and it’s jumpy and choppy editing, jumping from scene to scene, not leaving any time to show that time had actually passed. I feel like this movie would’ve been a wonderful love story if the editing didn’t make it confusing and if it would’ve had more original ideas than just common clichés.

Overall, I’d say “Everything, Everything” is a touching movie that has a lot of potential, but it definitely isn’t something you need to see immediately. This movie could’ve been executed and edited better but is still a cute movie for a couple.
