No music concert at Monroe Country Fair proves to be controversial

For as long as anyone can remember, there has been a country concert at the Monroe County Fair. It’s always been a big deal to go to these concerts. People come from all over and stand in line all day for these performers. There have been some huge stars at the fair including Kenny Rogers (2001), Trace Adkins (2007), Billy Currington (2012), and Hunter Hayes (2013). The last few years, they have even had Christian concerts during fair week. However, this year, there will be no music concerts. Instead, the fair will host Bill Engvall, who is a comedian and actor best known for his “Here’s your sign” bit. This is a cool thing to be coming to the Monroe County Fair, but there has also been a lot of people pretty disappointed that they won’t have a country concert to be attending.

Senior Korynn Meyer said she’s okay with no concert. While she will miss the music she is excited for something new. “I’m glad there won’t be a reason for a bunch of girls to be there dressed trashy.”

“I think it’s annoying because we’ve always has a country concert but at the same time I’m excited about the show they’re having” senior Autumn Nash-Theiss said.

Although people are disappointed that there will be no concert at the fair this year, it seems that people are also interested for what will take its place and to have something new.
