Michigan College of Beauty partnership opens elective opportunities

MHS has recently brought back the opportunity for students to attend the Michigan College of Beauty as an elective. Starting next year, several junior and senior MHS students will attend the college located on South Monroe Street for their fourth and fifth hour class until 4:30 p.m. from Tuesday until Saturday.

The class has not been available to students since the 2006/2007 school year due to funding restraints and has affected the school drastically.

Bill Ferrara, the career and technical education director for MHS, shares that many people looking to attend MHS in the past have asked about the program, and upon finding out the program was no longer available, choose to go to other schools where it was offered.

“With this new program we will have many new students coming in from different districts and it will help bring more money to our schools,” said Ferrara. “It’s a very exciting opportunity for our students.”

MHS currently has seven students that were accepted into the College of Beauty and will start in the 2017/18 school year.

Sophomore Peyton Moran was accepted into the program and was the first student in Monroe to make an interview with the college.

“When I heard the announcement that the program was coming back, I basically sprinted up the stairs,” said Moran. “I was so excited.”

Those interested in the program should see the counselors and may interview for the 2018/19 school year.
