On March 10, and 11, the Monroe High Robotics team faced many of its rivals at a Competition at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, with a final rank of 24 out of 40.

According to junior Corbin Solomon, the robotics team has grown in both numbers and ability since he first started in 2014.

“We’ve come a long way,” Solomon said. “We had three people when we started and we have about 25 now. At the competition we did alright. We ended up in 24th [place].” .

Advisor Michael Mountain said that the team did well at the competition and received a total of two awards. Mountain also said that the key players for this event were Solomon, junior Clay Chiotti, and senior Marybeth Mohn.

“The team proved themselves with their comradery, ingenuity, their synergy, and their drive to receive. As a team, they built a machine that lasted very well. They did have one major breakdown, but that’s okay. For this competition, they received two awards and three trophies,” Mountain said.

Chiotti said that they didn’t do as well at the competition as he had hoped, but they did okay.

“At this competition, we didn’t do very great at the beginning, but towards the end, we fixed our robot because it broke a couple of times, so we started to climb in rank and we didn’t pretty okay. We ranked 24 out of 40,” Chiotti said.

Chiotti also said that he definitely felt a lot better going into the competition than he did at the end of it.

“Before the competition, I thought we were going to do very good because we had a lot of money to build the robot, but it didn’t really go as well as I had originally thought,” Chiotti said.
