Upcoming music festivals anticipate large crowds

Music festival season is finally approaching, and with that, multiple star-studded lineups have been announced. From big name festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza and more underground-themed festivals such as Shaky Knees and South by Southwest.

South by Southwest, often just referred to as “SXSW” will be happening on March 10 – 19 in Austin, Texas. The lineup features many up-and-coming acts like Blaenavon, La Mente, #424, Cherry Glazerr, among other unfamiliar names. Tickets for this nine-day event go for $925 to $1250.

Coachella will be taking place on April 14 – 23 in Indio, California. The headliners include Radiohead, Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar. Some of the names in the lineup are Lorde, Travis Scott, Future, Bon Iver, Mac Miller and many more. Tickets for one weekend are currently on sale starting $399.

The Shaky Knees festival will be held on May 12 – 14 in Atlanta, Georgia. The show’s lineup features primarily indie or alternative artists, such as The XX, LCD Soundsystem, Cage the Elephant, and more. Tickets can be bought for $99 to $185.

The annual Hangout Fest will happen on May 19 – 21 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The beachy-themed festival will have performances from Mumford & Sons, Twenty One Pilots, Frank Ocean, Major Lazer, among others. Tickets are $289.

The Governors Ball on Randall’s Island in New York City will be taking place on June 2 – 4. The lineup includes Chance the Rapper, Phoenix, Childish Gambino, Lorde as well as more. Tickets are selling for up to $305.

Bonnaroo will be held on June 8 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. They have a jam-packed lineup this year that includes U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Weeknd, Chance the Rapper and more. Tickets for that weekend are currently on sale for $324.

Lollapalooza will be held in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 3 – 6. The popular festival’s much-anticipated lineup has yet to be announced, but will be later this month.
