Interact embarks on ski trip

Nothing says community like sliding down a hill of ice on two plastic boards.

Interact Club is embarking on a ski trip to Mount Brighton in Brighton, Michigan, on Feb. 12, the first day of winter break.

Aside from MHS club members, their families, staff and Rotarians are also invited to attend. Rotary International is the sponsoring organization made up of adults around Monroe County. They join Interact for many of their events and also focus on giving back to the community.

Club advisor Sue Jones and assistant advisor Deborah Foster are planning the whole event. Through the MSIA School Ski Days program they are able to provide all assets of the trip for only $35.

The purpose of the trip is to create stronger bonds within the club and connect with people from Rotary International said Jones. This will be the second time this club has participated in this occasion, but Jones said she hopes it will become a club tradition.

“[Last year] it was hilarious fun during the lesson session. Lots of falling and laughing,” Jones said. “I hope the fun stories result from this year’s event as well.”

Sophomore Adria Slowinski, who has been in Interact Club since her freshman year, is attending the ski trip for her first time.

“I’m excited to hang out with the other club members, but I’m nervous because I don’t want to face plant,” Slowinski said.

“Sounds too cold for my liking, but I’ll go anyway,” sophomore Shayna Frank said.

Interact Club’s motto is “Service above Self.” They have meetings every Tuesday afterschool in room C110. You can sign up with Jones or follow their twitter page @MHSInteract107.

“We are always looking for new members who are looking to serve the school and larger community,” said Jones.
