MHS Cross Country gives back this season

The Monroe High School Cross Country team will once again be participating in the annual Adopt-a-Family event this holiday season.

MHS Cross Country has participated in this event for the past seven years. The team collects gifts for one to three families each year and donates them as Christmas gifts in December. This year, team captain Madyson Farris has selected three families for which to buy for.

The first family has four young children and is in need of various clothes, toys, kitchen utensils, and household cleaning supplies. The second family consists of a single mother and her teenage son, and they are in need of clothes and cleaning supplies. The third family is a single senior woman who needs clothes, hats and gloves, groceries, and craft supplies. Gift cards will also be accepted for any of the families.

MHS Cross Country members and their families have already supplied most of the items for the second and third families.

The first family currently has the most unanswered needs. They have a three-year-old girl, a two-year-old girl, a one-year-old boy, and a baby girl. Clothes are the most important, but the family is also looking for a DVD player and movies, dolls, games, towels, wash cloths, and pots and pans.

The Cross Country team will have its annual wrapping party during the second week of December, so all items should be donated by then.

Many people have already donated towards the cause, but more help is always appreciated. For those who wish to lend a hand, contact Farris for more information. Members of the Cross Country team can direct volunteers to her. Farris and her mother are willing to pick up items as well. All collected items will be donated Saturday, Dec. 12.
