The notorious fight between two known fighters, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, was not all it was hyped up to be. Many paid lots of money for tickets and pay-per-view on the fight. Apparently, many fans were not pleased with the fight, and want their money back.
Many fans across the country are displeased with what they paid for, and are filing lawsuits against Pacquiao, Mayweather, HBO, Showtime, and various cable companies to get their money back plus a little more, according to monroenews.com.
According to abcnews.go.com, HBO and Showtime both broke records of bringing in more than $400 million from 4.4 million fans that paid up to $100 to watch the fight at home.
Lawsuits aren’t rolling in from just fans at home, though. A lawsuit was filed on the behalf of Flights Beer Bar, a bar near the LAX airport in California, who paid $2,600 just to broadcast the fight in the bar, according to abcnews.go.com.
Lawsuits are coming in from different states and even some from Puerto Rico.
This is not actually an easy process, a federal panel of judges first will likely need to decide on whether or not these lawsuits from various states and Puerto Rico should be consolidated into one big case or not. After that point, a judge will have to choose whether or not they are going to be certified as class actions, according to courant.com.
Many are calling this the “fraud of the century” in place as the fight of the century.
