Homecoming is a big week at Monroe High. The school changes from a strict learning habitat to an even more fun environment.
Everyone has a part in homecoming week- clubs, sports, teachers. The student section at the football game will fill with fans Friday night chanting cheers lead by our own MHS cheer team. .
Everyone sees the cheer team on the sideline, cheering the fans to stand and fight for a win. But, how do they prepare for the big week and the even bigger game?
Coach Petrina Beckner said that all three teams practice together and every team, freshmen, JV and varsity, cheers on Friday night for the homecoming game, which is a step out of the norm. The cheerleaders arrive at the high school at 3:45 p.m. to prepare themselves for the homecoming game. They go over cheers and practice what they are doing for that night, as well as to, bond as a team.
Junior Kaitlynne Zukowski said the uniforms also slightly change for the homecoming game, by adding a bow for more spirit.
“This year we get an all silver bow,” Zukowski said.
Zukowski also said that the varsity prepares the freshman and JV teams to cheer with them on Friday night in the practices prior to the big game.
“We go to the freshman and JV practices and cheer with them,” she said.
So after extra practice and hard work, the girls are all ready and excited to pep up the crowd and help the boys bring home the win.
