A major part of homecoming, one that is often overlooked, is the MHS marching band. Can you imagine a football game without the marching band there to play the fight song to pump up the team?
During the homecoming game, the band will be playing a song to fit the theme, ‘Bright Lights, Big Cities’. They will be playing “On Broadway.” They will begin rehearsing it on Wednesday of homecoming week.
Senior Diondre Fletcher usually conducts during the halftime show, but since he is on court, he won’t be able to.
“Instead of playing our normal show that we do all the time, what we’ll do is, we’ll figure out the theme and we’ll pick a song that goes with the theme and we’ll play that song however many times it takes for all the candidates to be announced and we’ll just kind of stand in the back. When they get ready to announce the winner, we’ll do a little drum roll,” said Fletcher., “Bbut I’m not doing anything since I’m on court.”
Junior Krissy Castellese, a drum major, will have to conduct the entire show. This is very unusual, since they normally would take turns.
“I’m not really sure how homecoming goes. I’ll hopefully know what I’m doing,” said Castellese. She is hoping one of the seniors will help her out since this is the first time she will actually get to watch the show.
Last year, Castellese was in the pit, which means she was playing the drums at the front of the field. She didn’t get to watch the performance since she was facing away. She said she is excited to get to watch this year.
