The year of 2014 has run up on us and just like things change all the time in the world, so do the words that we as humans speak. Between Swag, YOLO, and Gucci, these are commonly used words that everyone has said once or twice, or maybe say them every day. But back when one entered school for the first time, these were not the words that were spoken. Just like our parents had their own slang, most of us do not say what they used to say.
Just like people, words change, and they are always more interesting as time comes along. In the 70s, people everywhere were super groovy and ready to go to the disco. In the 90s, the rad kids controlled the school. Nowadays, everyone is just hoping that they can bust out a boat load of swag and do stupid stuff because “You Only Live Once” (YOLO).
When this generation is old and the new hip kids are walking around saying how that new movie is “Beamin” as a person from our generation, all one can say is they are “Salty” that they weren’t able to go. No matter how hard one tries not to conform, everyone will say the new hip word either by accident or on purpose. But everyone must keep up because new cool, rad, groovy, slick, and swaggy words are dropped on a daily.
So as the words changed from our first year of school, they will change for the next generation; all one can do is stay funky fresh, get on the swag train and roll on.
