Everyone makes decisions, but Thursday, May 1, during fourth and fifth hour, all of the seniors that have a post-secondary plan and turn in their documentation to the main office can show their post-secondary plan to the entire district. Decision Day is a state-wide event in which MHS is participating for the first time this year.
The event will be live streamed and also be shown on every television in the district.
In attendance, parents are welcome to show support to their children. Also in attendance will be representatives from the post- secondary plan, such as military personnel, to welcome the student into their programs. Students will be also given a ‘swag bag’ after crossing the stage to congratulate the student and wish them luck on their next step, whether being a college or university, military, or joining the work force.
Students will be given poster boards in advance of May 1 to design and decorate any way they want to portray their post-secondary plans. Students will also be given a shirt saying “Decision Day 2014” and the choice of what they are doing after high school.
Some seniors are apprehensive about the new experience. “It’s dumb, it’s kinda pointless. I get what they are trying to do, but I don’t like how they are forcing it,” said Jeff Stead.
Others are looking forward to the event. “I’m excited, but I am also a little nervous for it,” said Senior McKenna Chipps.
