On May 23 in a 5-2 vote, the board selected Dr. Barry Martin over Scott O. Snyder to be the next Superintendent of Monroe Public Schools..
“We’re very pleased,” board president Robert Yeo was quoted as saying in the Monroe Evening News the next day. “Barry is very well respected.”
“Becoming the superintendent of Monroe Public Schools means that I can continue to support the district efforts to improve student achievement across all grade levels,” said Martin.
Martin is already sharing his vision and eagerness for the future of Monroe Public Schools.
“It also means that I can work to make sure that all Monroe Public School staff are appreciated for their contributions to the effectiveness of the district programs. I will have an opportunity to promote learning opportunities that meet the individual needs of all students and help assure that these learning opportunities are designed to challenge students to work up to their potential and to be prepared for college and/or the workplace.”
On March 12 Monroe Public Schools began their search for the new superintendent as current superintendent Randy Monday is ready to retire at the end of this school year. Many candidates were selected for the position and the first interview of the board was on April 23. Tedd March and Ryan Philbeck voted for Martin while Wendy Spicer and Aaron Mason voted for Snyder.
Martin said he has new plans to make MPS a better place for students and our community.
“ I will be able to promote the great instructional programs offered by Monroe Public Schools at all levels so that both the school community and community outside the school walls understand that they should be very proud of the work done in this school district, by both staff and students,” said Martin speaking about his new position.
Martin has been with Monroe Public Schools since 1986. He began with the district as elementary school principal and served at the former Christiancy Elementary School. Since 2000, Martin has held his current position as Director of State and Federal Programs.
