Random: according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, it means without definite aim, direction, rule, or method. Random is also the theme of this year’s Winterfest week. Student government has decided to throw a curveball at the students of Monroe High and keep them on their toes with this year’s festivities.
To start out the week, Monday will bring a twist to the normal Pajama Day, by allowing one to “scrub,” as well. That is, to just roll out of bed without caring about your appearance and just flaunting what you were born with in your favorite hoodie and sweat pants or yoga pants. And don’t forget those comfy moccasins. Monday will also hold the court assembly at the end of first hour.
Our forefathers founded this great country on the great principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Nowadays, we show this pride with wife beater tank tops, denim, and sequenced American-flag tracksuits. Tuesday is the day to show off your American spirit to the highest degree. Sport the flag as a cape, dye your hair red, white, and blue, heck, bring your American eagle to school and ride that stallion to your classes. Just leave the sparklers and fireworks at home please.
This is also the day to vote during TFT for who you want to support in your class for Winterfest Princess and Mr. Legs.
Wednesday is the day to throw all the fashion advice you’ve gotten from “How Do I Look,” “Fashion Police,” “Queer Eye,” and Cosmopolitan out the window and bear your most daring attire. Instead of the usual Mix and Match Day, this time Monroe High will be sporting Mix and Don’t Match Day, giving students permission to wear the most loud and outgoing accessories they can find.
This year, Wednesday will be an early release day, so food court will be held on Thursday instead of the usual Wednesday.
Christmas season may be over, but don’t pack away those festive, ugly sweaters just yet. Thursday is the day to flaunt the tackiest, gaudiest sweater you’ve got. And it doesn’t only have to be Christmas-themed. It could be any holiday or no holiday at all. If you need inspiration for your outfit you can always check out a few episodes of “The Cosby Show.”
Like every Homecoming and Winterfest week, Friday will bring Spirit Day. This year, however, it’s getting turned up a notch. It’s time to shove your alma mater in everybody’s faces and scream to the heavens that you’re a Trojan, and dog gone it, you’re proud. Make sure not to burn out during the day, though. At 7 p.m. Monroe will be playing Bedford for the Winterfest game, and during halftime will be the crowning of Winterfest Princess and Mr. Legs.
