Not everyone on the Winterfest court has to be the stereotypical, popular kid. Some are athletes, some are strong in academics, and some are also musically gifted; but all three of these are true for junior Princess court nominee Ashley Jewell.
Jewell is a member of NHS, plays soccer for the school, and plays in the school band. In her spare time, she likes to spend quality time with her family and her boyfriend.
Next year, Jewell will be MHS’ marching band drum major and served this year as the assistant drum major, which is a job she admits can get hectic sometimes. Still, she said she is happy to have the position.
“I love having the responsibility of drum major,” Jewell said.
Having been in band since she joined the beginning band in fifth grade with her clarinet, Jewell has since learned to play that, the oboe, the alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and even some piano. Being in band has been something she’s enjoyed over the years, and she’s especially fond of some of the people she’s met.
Her court assembly nomination has brought much joy to Jewell as she awaits the events that will ensue with the “Random” themed week.
“I am very glad to be on court, and I can’t wait until the assembly,” Jewell stated.
In addition to the court assembly, Jewell said she is excited for the basketball game on Friday, Jan. 18, where she will find out whether or not she won Princess. She also said she is excited to be dressed up in front of so many people.
