The Monroe High wrestling team hosted its honorary plaque for winning the Howell Highland Classic invitational. This was the wrestling teams first meet.
“I think we did really good, I like the way our guys wrestled this weekend,” said senior captain Daniel Green.
There were 20 teams participating in this event. The Runner up for this tournament was the host; Howell.
“I think that we did good as a team and have a lot of things to build, but what a great way to start the season,” said sophomore Keith Matthews.
Aside from the winning for the varsity, the junior varsity team made a name for themselves with its aggressiveness and heart. The junior varsity team went to Ann Arbor Pioneer this past weekend.
“We did good as a team, but I didn’t do that well,” said senior foreign exchange student Victoria Schindler.
The whole wrestling team has to go to Dexter this week to verse the Lincoln Rail-splitters and Ann Arbor Pioneer. Also over the weekend, they have a team tournament at Lincoln High.
“That the strong start was a good way to start but was just the beginning of the season and I won’t be happy until we make it to states,” senior captain Green also said.
The wrestling team’s season is at its start and will carry on for about a month and a half and will be filled with duels, tournaments, districts, regionals, and ends with state.
