Monroe’s girl’s golf team drove past six teams with a team score of 400 in the invitational at Bedford High last Saturday. The team finished the day with a 6-2 record.
“The team did pretty well. Our practices went well and it showed,” said senior Devin Mataya.
Team leader freshman Jordan Sawatzke led the pack with a score of 101 in their six wins. Senior Logan Rutledge followed close behind, only four shots behind Sawatzke.
“I would have to say the season went well, being it was my first year and first year on varsity. Mentally, my game was a little off just because I got frustrated,” said Sawatzke.
Looking back on the season, Monroe finished over .500 on their season schedule. Monroe beat Bedford and five others Saturday.
“I think we did good Saturday, and we can pull together next season and be good because all of us golfers have different characteristics that can be combined as one,” said sophomore Jayme Drouillard.
Monroe’s girl’s golf team hopes to improve its record for next year and get better like all Monroe teams do.
“I think we can improve on this year by golfing more consistently all year round and pull our mental game together like I know we can do,” said Sawatzke.
The team had their best score posted all season Saturday. It shows that the saying “practice makes perfect” really is true.
“We really need to work on getting our team closer as a whole, and when we do that we will win,” said Drouillard.
