“Ha, ha, ha, staying alive,” is one of the most widely known lyrics of the 70’s. Former member of the Bee Gee’s Robin Gibb sadly passed away in the late evening on Sunday, May 20, 2012, of tragically battling colorectal cancer at the age of 62. In 2010, he had to undergo surgery to treat a twisted bowel, a unheard-of condition that killed his twin brother and fellow Bee Gee, Maurice Gibb, in 2003 (CNN.com).
With the sudden death of Maurice in January 2003, Barry and Robin Gibb retired the group’s name after 45 years of performing. According to CNN News, in 2009, Robin Gibb announced that he and his brother Barry had agreed that the Bee Gees would re-form and perform again, but were unable to due to Robin’s sudden death.
He is best known as a member of the Bee Gees, and co-founded the Bee Gees with his twin brother Maurice, and his older brother Barry, as well.
ABC News reported that the pop-disco group known as the Bee Gees started performing in the late 60’s to early 70s but didn’t become famous till the mid-70s as the Bee Gees.
The Bee Gees became members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and won seven Grammy Awards. They were extremely notable for the music for the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever.
Gibb took a solo career at the start of the 80’s with albums such as How Old Are You? and Secret Agent” From the start of the Bee Gees, he was originally the lead singer of the Bee Gees, so taking off on the solo career wasn’t too much trouble.
According to the Washington post, in 2008, Gibb recorded a new solo album titled 50 St. Catherine’s Drive, but was never released. After a career spanning six decades, Robin Gibb’s last performance was February 2012. The world was in shock, knowing that there is only one former Bee Gee member left.
