Being late to school isn’t a crime. The teachers, on the other hand, act as if it’s a life or death situation. I feel being tardy to your first hour shouldn’t count against you.
I can see where teachers might get aggravated having students walk in late to their class throughout the day, because, although I’ve been found guilty on numerous occasions to this situation, there’s no excuse for being late when you’re already in the building.
However, not all students are old enough to drive themselves to school, and even if they are, the privilege of a car isn’t always available. Therefore, they rely on their parents or guardian as transportation and what makes parents late isn’t always the student’s fault and they shouldn’t be responsible.
I find it irritating the way teachers will sometimes stand outside the classroom and mark you tardy for being just seconds late. I was actually walking down the hall, with my teacher clearly witnessing me walking towards the room, the bell rang and he slammed the door, marking me tardy.
Although I can see where teachers would become irritated by students constantly interrupting their classes and walking in late, they should also look at it from a student’s point of view and realize being late to our first hour: it’s not always our fault.
