In August of 2011 Dark Parties, written by Sarah Grant, was put in stores for people all over to read. The book is about a 16 year old girl Neva. The book takes place in the future, and Neva was born in an isolated nation ruled by fear and lies. Over 100 years ago, her country constructed an electrified dome to “protect” them from the outside world.
Neva has been keeping a list of the people that have been mysteriously missing since she was little. When she gets older, she decides that she wants to figure out what happens. But every time she gets close to an answer, someone that is close to her, or helping her figure out why people are vanishing, goes missing too.
Neva throws a “Dark Party” so people couldn’t see each other’s faces to tell who is speaking. The dark party’s purpose is to tell everyone her plan on how to find the missing. But eventually, her plans fall through; she is forced to stop searching but when she starts working for her father that works for the government, she wants to find out more by searching through his stuff. Is the fact that her father works for the government the reason that Neva isn’t missing yet?
This book is very good. It has love, when Neva falls for her best friend’s boyfriend at the Dark Party that she threw. Lies, trust and a lot of other themes are involved in this book. When I picked up the book and started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. If I had to give it a certain amount of stars out of 5, I would give it four and a half.
