There were 101,000 American troops. Now that some have been pulled, there are only 91,000 troops left in Afghanistan. The president and the United States government has plans to have 33,000 troops delivered home by September and have them all home by the year 2014.
MHS student Dustin Jones tells how he feels about the Marines left in Afghanistan.
“I have two uncle’s that are Marines. They shouldn’t be left there. I remember what it’s like to have to wait for them to come home. It’s not fair, “said Dustin Jones, nephew of two marines.
The government has cut about 300 million dollars in spending from the military. That includes the 180 million dollars that was intended to accommodate the American troops. (www.wsj.com)
Dustin’s uncles tell their opinion about pulling troops out.
“I believe that the troops could have been pulled out a long time ago if they had been managed right,” said Marine Jason Dietrich who had served in the United States Marine Corps for over eight years.
On Dec. 6, 2011 America had vowed to keep supporting Afghanistan even after most foreign forces are scheduled to leave the country in 2014. However, it was decided after funding and supporting the Afghan governments for years that the funds would be pulled with concern on how it’s been ran.
“In my opinion the president has not been truthful with the troops under his command. I believe he is abusing them and running them into the ground,” continued Dietrich when asked for comments on how the president is controlling the
situation with the American Military troops.
The wife of Marine Nathan Dietrich said that this decision is long-awaited and couldn’t have come sooner.
“President Obama is doing what he has said he was going to do by pulling out 10,000 troops, but the remaining question on the minds of America is still ‘Is it good enough for the Marines waiting to come home? Don’t they all deserve to be out already?’” said Cindy Dietrich.
