The beautification project kicked off early this October where students and staff members at Monroe High School dedicated time to help improve the school grounds.
On Thursday, Oct. 6 and Saturday Oct. 8, more than 44 students from various clubs and activities at MHS showed up to lend a hand. All together, they planted flowers around the patio area, 15 shrubs along the fence behind the parking lot, 8 trees in the lawn in front of the main doors and a garden bed around the welcome sign. Also around the welcome sign, students and staff installed solar spotlights.
Project coordinator Lisa Sellers said that everything has been going well and looks great. ”The hardest part of this project so far has been figuring out how to get all of the plants watered,” she added. If anyone has any ideas for some kind of watering system they should see Mrs. Sellers in upper A-wing.
“If there are any clubs or groups interested in any responsibilities or simply donating some help, it would be greatly appreciated,” Sellers said. “This is a work in progress and we plan on working on it all year round. We’re planting more in the spring so if students want to get involved they should see myself, Mrs. Knabusch or Mrs. Jones for more information.”
