MAMA 2021: Winners, performances, more

The 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards were held on Dec. 11 this year. The night was filled with performances by popular K-Pop groups, such as Itzy, Enhypen, Stray Kids, Aespa. Even English singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran made an appearance. This event was one of the most anticipated award shows of the year and was watched and enjoyed by music lovers across the world. 

The big awards of the night were won by K-Pop groups TWICE and BTS. TWICE won the “Best Girl Group” award, as well as the “Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10” award. BTS won the “Artist of the Year,” “Album of the year,” “Worldwide Icon Award,” and six other awards. Solo artist IU won three awards, including the “Best Female Artist,” “Best Vocal Collaboration,” and “Best Collaboration” awards. Enhypen won the “Best New Male Artist” award, and Rosé from girl group Blackpink won “Best Dance Performance Solo.” 

As for the performances of the night, girl group Itzy performed their songs ‘Loco”,” and “In the Morning.” Brave Girls performed their songs “Rollin,” and “Chi Mat Ba Ram.” and boy group Stray Kids performed their songs “Cheese,” “Thunderous,” and “Hey Monster.” Many other K-Pop groups also performed, such as Enhypen and TXT. Ed Sheeran performed acoustic versions of his songs “Bad Habits,” and “Shivers.” He also took home the award for “Favorite International Artist.” 

In regards to a special moment of the night, disbanded boy group Wanna One reunited and sang three of their songs in an emotional reunion. They performed their songs “Energetic,” “Burn It Up,” and “Beautiful.” 

Groups TWICE and BTS were not in attendance at the award show this year. TWICE is preparing for their world tour and BTS was in quarantine after returning from their concert in Los Angeles. Girl groups Blackpink and Red Velvet were also not in attendance at the award show because of other events.
