REVIEW: ‘Formula of Love: O+T=<3' is TWICE's best album yet

On Friday, Nov. 12, KPOP group TWICE released their third full album titled “Formula of Love: O+T=<3.”  The album features 15 songs in total, plus one remix, and the Korean version of their hit lead single for the album, “The Feels.”  “Formula of Love: O+T=<3” was their most anticipated release yet, and has already become their best selling album to date.

The album starts off with the title track, “SCIENTIST.” This energetic start to the album is then followed by “MOONLIGHT,” and “ICON. These two songs are both fully in English and are two of the most popular tracks on the album. They both encapsulate the album’s energy by giving fans a song about falling in love in “MOONLIGHT,” and a song about fame and what it brings with “ICON.”

The next songs on the album, “CRUEL,” “REAL YOU,” and “F.I.L.A (Fall In Love Again)”, were written by group members Dahyun, Jihyo, and Nayeon respectively. “CRUEL” is a perfect dance track backed with violins. This song definitely is one of my favorite tracks on the album and shows how versatile TWICE can be. “REAL YOU” is a song about wanting the person you like to show you their genuine self, and fits perfectly between “CRUEL” and “F.I.L.A.” “F.I.L.A (Fall In Love Again)” is one of the most energetic songs on the album and is all about people falling back in love with each other, and definitely has an 80s feel to the song that just makes it a better song.

The next songs on the album “LAST WALTZ,” “ESPRESSO,” “REWIND,” and “CACTUS,” are all energetic songs with the exception of “REWIND.” “LAST WALTZ” in particular is a vocal-heavy song that shows the exceptional talent of TWICE. “ESPRESSO” is a playful song that also is a vocal heavy song, but this time features many low notes, which show an even wider range of vocals that TWICE has. “REWIND,” is a slower song, fully in Korean, that shows that TWICE can also do slower songs very well. “CACTUS,” was written by group member Jihyo. This song is actually about her cactus that died. The song is a sad rock song that, when you think of it, actually makes sense when you realize it is about her cactus.

The last songs on the album are three unit songs, “PUSH & PULL,” “HELLO,” “1,3,2,” as well as the last two English songs, “CANDY,” and “The Feels.” “PUSH & PULL” is sung by members Sana, Dahyun, and Jihyo. “HELLO” is sung by members Chaeyoung, Momo, and Nayeon. “1,3,2” is sung by members Jeongyeon, Tzuyu, and Mina. These unit songs are the fan favorites on the album, as they really showcase each member’s vocal and rapper talents. “CANDY” is a special song written about TWICE’s love and appreciation for their fans. And the last song on the album “The Feels,” is the most popular song on the album and was the album’s lead single, released on Oct. 1.

“Formula of Love: O+T=<3.” is one of the best albums of 2021 so far, and I recommend it for anyone who loves pop music. “Formula of Love: O+T=<3.” is a must-listen album this year, and definitely one of the best albums TWICE has released since their debut.
