PRO:
The cell phone policy should be enforced more here at Monroe High School. Students abuse the fact that teachers won’t take them away way too much. Students keep pushing and pushing for their phones not to be taken away, then once they are taken, students argue with the teacher and cause a big scene. This disrupts many students’ learning.
Teachers always warn students once about their phones before they are actually taken away. Some teachers take it away at the first sight of a phone, but most are pretty relaxed about it. Students come up with excuses all the time for having their phones out. One big reason is that they’re talking to their parents for a personal topic. Students use many excuses all the time.
Then, once it’s taken away, the student causes a big scene. Really, if the phone wasn’t out in the first place, the teacher wouldn’t have had to take your phone. Now, their phone’s taken away and learning is being disrupted because they’re making a scene. Arguing with a teacher and making a scene won’t get your phone given back; you’ll only get into more trouble.
The only thing about the new cell phone policy that is new is the fact that on a first offense, no matter what your parent still has to come pick it up. You no longer get it back at the end of the day; your parent has to come get it.
All together this is just a huge learning disruption. In the long run, it’s better to just keep your phone off and away. Off and away is better for everyone.
CON:
The cell phone policy has always been a part of high school. There was nothing wrong with the old policy where you couldn’t have it in class, your first offense your phone goes down to the office and you get it at the end of the day, the second time they call home, and each offense gets a worse punishment.
The policy just recently changed, and I think it’s even better. Our parents have to come pick up our cell phones now. I mean I’m in high school, and I love that my mommy and daddy get to come pick up my cell phone, instead of me doing it myself. I mean it’s not like my parents work all day or anything, and I’m sure they’d love to make an extra trip to the high school to get my cell phone for me.
The new addition to the policy is even better for students who are almost, if not already an adult. I mean every time I get in trouble I like to call my mommy to save me. By the time my mom gets there, she’s going to discipline me.
This policy is also good for classes like TFT where we just sit there and do nothing anyways.
Some teachers used to also just take students’ phones and keep them in their desks and give them back after class. But that was so dumb and too nice of them to do, so they had to change that, too. Teachers are now required to take it to the office. This shouldn’t be a big deal at all because teachers don’t have lives beyond school, so taking phones down to the office at the end of the day shouldn’t make a difference to them.
So over all, I think the old cell phone policy wasn’t as good as this new awesome change. This is going to be great, and I’m sure everyone will love it and never use their cell phones in school.
