On Thursday, Feb. 23, MHS art club will begin working on its new project during meeting days afterschool on Thursdays. MHS athletic director John Ray asked the art club to create a mural that will honor Monroe High graduate and fallen solider, Eric Hario.
They have designed a piece that will be mounted in the weight room as the background for his jersey and plaque. According to adviser Amy McBroom, MHS plans to invite the family to see the work after is has been finished.
“I think that it’s great for the kids to be able to work together to honor our fallen soldier and show their support for the greater good and school spirit,” McBroom added.
The design was collaborated between a few students in the club. Working together, the final product will be a bald eagle super-imposed on a flag. Most students from the art club will be working on it. Art club member sophomore Katrina Kazmierski incorporated the position of the eagle in comparison to the flag.
“I feel it’s a good idea and supports our fallen solider by recognizing him as more than a MHS graduate and football player but as someone who fought for our country,” said Kazmierski.
The club only meets once a week so the mural is estimated to be finished over summer and mounted towards the beginning of next year.
